Bastion Lime, a company that specialises in the mining and production of high-quality lime at its three plants in the North-West Province, has just announced the appointment of its new Managing Director.
Van der Merwe is no stranger to North-West. He grew up on a farm near Leeudoringstad, matriculated in Wolmaransstad and obtained his BEng in Chemical Engineering at the NWU. He also completed a BTech in Pulp and Paper Technology, a postgraduate diploma in Business Administration and a BTech in Explosive Management, together with engineering-related courses to keep abreast of the latest technology.
Van der Merwe started his career in 1999 at Sappi Ltd and after 10 years at the company moved to Omnia Fertilizer Pty Ltd since 2009, where he held various managerial roles. Some of his latest achievements are the successful establishment of the compliance department for Omnia Agriculture, as well as the successful implementation of the Global Harmonised System (GHS) safety regulation.
Van der Merwe joins Bastion from 1 September 2023.
